He is one of THE major artists of our time: Victor Tretiakov, violinist, conductor and professor for violin. His name appears as an important reference in the biographies of top-class musicians

Tretiakov worked with eminent conductors as Mstislav Rostropovich, Eugène Ormandy, Yuri Temirkanov, Eugen Jochum, Josef Krips, Valery Gergiev, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Rudolf Kempe, Neeme Järvi, Mikhail Pletnev, James Levine, Krysztof Penderecki, André Previn, Kiril Kondrashin, Jean Martinon, Mariss Jansons and Vladimir Fedoseyev.

He has performed with famous orchestras such as Berlin, Munich and Vienna Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, NHK Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.

In 1966, Victor Tretiakov stunned the world and caused a great stir when he won the International Tchaikovsky Competition beyond measure and received the first prize. So the doors were open to countries in the Western world, and invitations to concerts, which he received from then on.

  Concerts followed at the Berlin and Vienna Festival in 1976 as a soloist at the Salzburg Festival, and numerous concert tours in the U.S. and Canada, among others, together with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tretiakov is juror in numerous competitions in Brussels, Hanover, Sendai, Moscow, Helsinki and many other classical music competitions. From 1986 to 1994 he was the chairman of the judges of the International Tchaikovsky Competition. 
Since 1996, Victor Tretiakov teaches as a professor at the Musikhochschule in Cologne.
His students include Ilya Kaler, Sergei Stadler, Evgeny Bushkov, Natalia Likhopoi (Glazunov Quartet), Dmitri Berlinsky, Abel Tomas Realp (Cuarteto Casals) und Roberto Cani (New Hollywood String Quartet.

Tretiakov also devoted himself to chamber music and played with Svyatoslav Richter, Rostropovich, Oleg Kagan and the Borodin Quartet. In 1983 he was appointed chief conductor of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, with whom he worked over a decade. Together with Yuri Bashmet, Natalia Gutman and Vassily Lobanov, he founded a piano quartet, which occurs regularly across Europe.

His numerous recordings have been released by Melodiya, Sony / BMG, Brilliant Classics, Live Classics, Classics Yedang, relief, Olympics, Russian Revelation, vision Records and DVDs at TDK and polo Arts.

Victor Tretiakov was born on 17 October 1946 in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, into a musical family and attended the music school of Irkutsk with seven years, where he was admitted to the class of the Music Educator Gordina. At eight, he continued his education at the Moscow Central Music School.From 1965 Tretiakov studied at the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor Yuri Yankelevich, who encouraged his high level talent very carefully. In the same year Tretiakov was winner of the Union Competition for violin and received a diploma of the first degree. Just one year later, in 1966, he won the International Tchaikovsky Competition and received the first prize.

He lives with his wife Natalia and his daughter in Cologne, Germany.
